The Timberlawn Intensive Outpatient Program

An outpatient treatment program for drug and alcohol abuse and dependence

Dual diagnosis treatment (chemical abuse or dependence with or without other mental or emotional disorders)

For patients who need more intensive treatment than ordinary outpatient but less intensive than inpatient rehab or day hospital

May be step down treatment after detox, inpatient, rehab, or day hospital

Individual, marital and family counseling, psychiatric evaluation and medication management are available

For adults 18 and over

Patients may continue working while attending treatment

Available at the Timberlawn Hospital Main Campus and Timberlawn North Dallas Outpatient Clinic

Sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Patients may begin treatment at any time

Patients can be evaluated and begin treatment the same day as referred

Length of treatment is usually six to eight weeks

Each session includes group therapy and education

Group therapy addresses both the patient's substance abuse and emotional issues

Education usually consists of a video about substance abuse or related topics followed by group discussion

Patients are encouraged to attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA), to get a sponsor, and to be working on the 12 Steps

lOP sessions are not AA or NA meetings, although AA/NA related topics are often discussed

Patients are expected to remain alcohol and drug free

Random urinalysis tests for alcohol and drugs are required

Adult family members and significant others may attend

After completing the lOP, patients may continue to attend Monday sessions as Aftercare at no cost

Many insurance plans cover IOP
